Number of COVID-19 Cases in India Rises by Record 57118 - Health Ministry

India's Covid-19  tally reached 16,95,988 on Saturday with a record single-day increase of 57,118 cases, while the recoveries surged to 10,94,374, according to the Union Health Ministry data. The death toll due to Covid-19 climbed to 36,511 with 764 people succumbing to the disease in a day, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The death toll from the disease has reached 36,511, with 764 new fatalities being recorded over the past day. More than 1.09 million people have recovered in India. According to the ICMR, a cumulative total of 1,93,58,659 samples have been tested up to July 31, with 5, 25,689 being tested on Friday.

A day earlier, India registered 55,078 new coronavirus cases and 779 fatalities.

According to Johns Hopkins University, the global death toll due to COVID-19 stands at 679,439. Another 10,330,958 people have recovered from the disease. India comes third in terms of the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, following the United States and Brazil.
