A new report provides an overview of incidence, mortality, and survival rates and trends for liver cancer, a cancer for which death rates have doubled in the United States since the mid-1980s, the fastest rise of any cancer in the U.S. The report appears in CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians, and says differences in major risk factors as well as inequalities in access to care have led to significant racial disparities in liver cancer mortality.

Pesticide exposure was associated with a 71 percent increased risk of liver cancer, according to the meta-analysis, which was presented on April 3 at the American Association for Cancer Research's annual meeting in Washington, D.C. The findings have not yet been published in a peer-reviewed journal.

In another study showed that   a possible association between specific pesticides and liver cancer risk, with the strongest evidence observed in biomarker-based studies. In particular, organochlorine pesticides, including DDT, may increase liver cancer risk.
