The squadron has been named Flying Bullets, which was started by Air Chief Marshal Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria. The Air Force chief himself flew in the Tejas fighter plane.

Today the event was organized at Sulur Airforce Station near Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. This squadron is equipped with LCA Tejas aircraft. This is the second squadron of the Air Force to fly Tejas.

The Air Force had signed an agreement to purchase 40 Tejas. Out of this, 18 Tejas have been handed over to the Indian Air Force so far. A squadron has been made in Sulur for them.

Tejas is an indigenous fourth generation tailless compound delta wing aircraft. It is equipped with a fly-by-wire flight control system, integrated digital avionics, multimode radar and its structure is made out of composite material. It is the lightest and smallest in its group of fourth-generation supersonic combat aircraft.

It can fly at a maximum speed of 2,205km/h and a maximum altitude of 15,200m. The range of the aircraft is 3,000km and the service ceiling is 16,500m. The aircraft weighs approximately 5,450kg and has a maximum take-off weight of 13,500kg.
